Deep tissue massage uses slower strokes and sustained, focused pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and the connective tissue around them. It is the right choice when a relaxing massage feels pleasant but doesn't touch the problem.
How it differs from Swedish massage
The techniques look similar, but the pace and intent are different. Your therapist works more slowly, often across the grain of the muscle, and stays longer on specific areas such as the upper back, the muscles beside the spine, the hips and the neck.
You should feel pressure, sometimes intense, but it should never be sharp or make you hold your breath. Tell your therapist at any point if you want it lighter or deeper. We adjust as we go.
What to expect afterwards
It's normal to feel some tenderness for a day or two, similar to after a good workout. Drinking water, a warm shower and gentle movement help. Most clients notice the real difference on the second day, when the tightness they'd been living with is simply less.
When to skip it
Let us know before booking if you have a recent injury, a blood clotting condition, recent surgery, or are taking blood thinners. We may recommend a gentler treatment or ask you to check with your doctor first.
Choose this treatment if
- You carry knots that never seem to go away
- You sit at a desk or drive for long hours
- You want firm pressure, not a light rub
- Your lower back or shoulders ache by the evening
